The relationship with organization is pretty black and white. You either love or hate the idea of spending so much time and effort on something that will most likely get ruined again.

Organization causes more stress and anxiety at first for many which is why some never give it a chance. But hear me out – if you can push through, trust me it is rewarding! Being unorganized is the elephant in the room. I’m sure though you have no clue where the heck to start BUT lucky for you I love organizing and I love helping people organize!

There are so many ways and many different places to start; there is no right or wrong. Which is why it can be overwhelming. What I recommend for everyone to do before diving in is to start slow. Going all in right away will result in a freeze and fail result, and I want you to succeed!

My Top 3 Tips:

1.) Everything has a home – Organization is about grouping. Make sure the things you are storing together make sense and are in close categories and these are then in cabinets, bins, containers, cubbies, etc. This is easier for everyone in the house when it comes to clean up and chores too! Less hassle of explaining and mansplaining where you want things to go. Also, grouping will help to reveal if you have “too many” of the same item or categories.

2.) Set a timer – Uninterrupted! For 20 minutes! During this time, you will pick a room and go through what you can. Start with what you see – put things where they go, throw things away, set some aside for donate or your local yard sale. Do not leave that room unless you are completely done. If you have anything that goes in another room – set it at the door for after your timer or you will end up all over the house and will not accomplish anything.

3) Let it go! I have been known for “hoarding” certain things for my “what if” scenarios in my head. However, the weight of anxiety and stress by keeping these things is not worth it. If you need whatever it is down the road – go buy a new one. Yes, that does not sound practical if you’re in the hoarder mindset but trust me- It’s beneficial.

These pointers are only high level for organizing but they are the bones to being successful. Using these 3 steps can help eliminate stress, anxiety, and clutter; you just need to take the leap and start slow.
