Stepping into your Babe Era means you absolutely NEED a wardrobe that makes you feel like your best self- learn from me a former professional shopper. Forget “trending styles” that keep recycling, this is about creating your dream wardrobe and shopping for those staple pieces that you can keep using no matter what the trend is. With social media being so integral to our everyday life, trends are recycling so fast- and not all trends work for everybody. This is about finding the most unique style that embodies you and creating a wardrobe you love.
As someone who used to be a Professional Shopper for clothing to stock my boutique, I am happy to share tips with you on creating a comfortable, cohesive and well-priced wardrobe.
Tip 1: Be Basic!
You are anything but basic, but your wardrobe needs some basic staple pieces. When I was a Professional Shopper, AKA Boutique Owner, I always made sure I stocked basics. They are so important for every part of your wardrobe, they can also help cut down on over consumption!
I will link a few of my favorites! Here is a list of basics everyone needs:
- White Short Sleeve Tee
- Black Short Sleeve Tee
- Striped Long Sleeve Tee
- White Button Up Shirt
- Cream Sweater
- Taupe Cardigan
- Denim Jacket
- Leather Jacket
- Neutral Blazer
- Wool Coat – Can even be Faux if you don’t want to justify the cost.
- Fitted Blue Jeans
- Fitted Black Jeans
- Fitted White Jeans
- Black Tapered Pants
- Slip Dress (Neutral)
When buying basics, all of your staples should be Neutrals. These should all be pieces that can mix and match.
I prefer wearing bodysuits over regular tees because they’re smoother. Usually when tucking it can look messy if not tucked properly. I linked my favorite pack of bodysuits; you can find this over on Amazon.
Moving onto shoes & accessories:
- Ankle Height Booties
- Loafers
- Sneakers
- Nude Pumps
- Heeled Sandals
- Sandals (not flip-flops)
- Crossbody Purse
- Tote Shoulder Bag
BONUS:
- Rattan Purse
Tip 2: Moderation is Key!
Buy patterned items in moderation. We all love a good floral print, especially in the Spring! Sometimes there are gorgeous florals. See a patterned item you love? Think before you buy. Do you have something like it? How many outfits can you wear it with? How often will you wear the item?
I am the queen of patterns, unless it’s a stripe… I practice moderation.
Tip 3: Doesn’t Fit? Donate!
Stop holding on to items from High School. You have a glorious GODDESS body, stop holding onto items that don’t fit or you’re holding onto because of nostalgia.
Don’t be afraid to donate items that don’t serve you. Your closet should only consist of items you actively love and bring out your babe era!
Tip 4: Don’t Buy Into Trends
My biggest tip. Trends are recycling more quickly than they ever have thanks to social media.
You do not have to buy into trends just because they’re popular. Buy timeless items that will surpass the times, timeless staples that will forever be popular.
Plus, you’re trendy just because you’re you!
Tip 5: Shop Wherever You Want!
Shop wherever you want and with the budget you’re comfortable with.
There is no shame picking up your staple pieces at Walmart, TJ Maxx or even a thrift store!
You don’t have to shop at Gucci just because others are.
Plus, Walmart has a GREAT selection!
Even a Professional Shopper switches up the stores they shop at.
Tip 6: Learn The Art of Styling
Styling is how you elevate an outfit from basic to impressive.
You can throw on a regular tee shirt and jeans and be on the go, or you can style it! An example of elevating this look: Throw on that same tee and Jeans. Tuck the tee in and throw on a belt. Add some jewelry and a pair of sneakers.
You can use accessories to really elevate your outfit.
Lucky number seven means you’re getting the last and most important tip…
Tip 7: Take the Photos!
Take that mirror selfie! If you love your fit, take all the pictures! Don’t be afraid to show off, you deserve it!
